Ravi Shastri expressed concern about the future of international cricket, saying, “Leagues like football…”
The future of cricket is in jeopardy with some shocking statements made by former cricketers. He said that the growing T20 league and busy schedule of international cricket are the reasons for this. Former Indian cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri has once again expressed his opinion about the future of cricket.
A few months ago, Ravi Shastri had said that the future of ODI cricket is in danger. He had warned that many legendary cricketers would leave their country to play T20 cricket. He repeated his same words. Speaking in an interview to a cricket website, he said,
“I have always said that the future of bilateral series is at stake. The way league cricket is spreading across the world seems to be the case. Now cricket is moving towards football.”
Last year, New Zealand fast bowlers Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham preferred to play league cricket instead of accepting national contracts. Also, England’s test captain Ben Stokes retired prematurely from ODI cricket. Some South African cricketers have preferred to play cricket in retirement.
Currently T20 league is played in all major countries around the world. IPL in India, PSL in Pakistan, Australia Big Bash and Caribbean Premier League in West Indies are played. Apart from that, now leagues have started in South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE which earn big money for the players. So many players are seen retiring early and playing these leagues all over the world.
