RCB’s exile for the trophy increased! Despite the KGF’s efforts, it was a disappointment
The last league match of IPL 2023 was played as Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Titans. Gujarat won the match by six wickets on the strength of Shubman Gill’s century at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. With that, RCB’s dream of winning the IPL went another year.
Only a win against Gujarat would take RCB into the playoffs. Virat Kohli, continuing his strong form, scored a century in the second match in a row. The challenge of 198 runs for victory was easily achieved by Gill completing the NABARD century. So RCB’s dreams were shattered.
The individual performance of RCB players has been excellent throughout this season. Captain Faf du Plessis remains the top run-scorer with 730 runs in 14 matches. Virat also showed tremendous consistency scoring 639 runs in 14 matches. He was third in the list of highest run-scorers. Glenn Maxwell, the team’s third most experienced player, has also rallied from time to time. His strike rate was the second highest in the tournament (183) while running at pace. Along with that, in the bowling department, Mohammad Siraj was always successful in getting the team wickets in the power play. His economy rate in power play was strong at 5.13. However, the team still fails to qualify for the play-offs.
Although the senior players performed their duties well, they did not get proper support from the younger players. Dinesh Karthik, who played the role of finisher last season, failed completely this time. In the bowling department, Hasaranga, Vaishak Vijayakumar and Wayne Parnell could not perform consistently. Youngsters Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror and Suresh Prabhudesai were a complete disappointment.
