The second qualifier match of Indian Premier League 2023 was played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on Friday (May 26). Gujarat opener Shubman Gill once again showed his brilliant game in this match. He smashed Mumbai’s bowling with a powerful knock of 129 runs. Along with this century, he also holds the record for the highest individual score in the play offs in IPL history.
After losing the first qualifier against Chennai, Gujarat needed a win in this match. Shubman Gill took the responsibility of the team’s victory on his shoulders. He batted aggressively from the start and neutralized the Mumbai bowlers. He completed his fifth half-century of the season in just 22 balls. He then needed just 17 balls to complete his century. He scored 129 off just 60 balls before being dismissed. This included 7 fours and 10 sixes. With this innings, he also won the Orange Cap this season.
With this knock, he became the highest run-scorer in the play-offs in IPL history. Earlier this feat was done by Virender Sehwag for Punjab. He scored 122 against Chennai in 2014 Qualifier 1. So, in the final match of 2019 IPL, Shane Watson scored an unbeaten knock of 117 runs. So, Wriddiman Saha scored 115 runs for Punjab in the final match of 2014 IPL.
Considering this match, after Gill’s century, Sai Sudarshan and captain Hardik Pandya also made important contributions. Thanks to his contribution Gujarat team could reach 233.
