India announced the squad for the 2023 Asian Games on Friday (July 14). Many young players have got a chance in this team and Maharashtra captain Rituraj Gaikwad will lead this team. Rituraj’s first reaction after getting the responsibility of the Indian team has come, he has decided on the title.

Shikhar Dhawan was said to be in charge of the Indian team for this tournament. However, Rituraj was unexpectedly given the leadership. Rituraj has previously led the Maharashtra team as well as the Puneri Bappa team in the Maharashtra Premier League. His captaincy experience can be useful for the Indian team. Giving his first reaction after being given the captaincy, he said,

“I thank the BCCI and the selection committee for giving me the opportunity to play in this big tournament. Playing for the national team is a big deal. Here I was given the honor to lead. It will be a golden opportunity for me and all the other players.”

In this video shared by BCCI, he further said,

“We are all young and have been together for the past year. Since childhood, we have been watching other athletes of the country win medals in the Asian Games. I also have the same dream to have a gold medal around my neck while the national anthem of India is played.”

This is the first time men’s cricket has been included in the Asian Games. The Indian team will be preparing for the ODI World Cup during the period when these tournaments will be held. So it was decided to send a youth team for this tournament.
