Rohit Sharma- A brilliant opener, an excellent captain

Rohit Sharma started his international career at the age of 20. Analysts quickly recognized Rohit’s batting quality and selected him as a player in the Indian team. The same Rohit is celebrating his 36th birthday on Sunday (April 30).

Rohit, who initially started his international career as a middle-order batsman, became popular as an opener in recent times. After Virender Sehwag, Indian cricket got a diamond named Rohit Sharma as an opener.

Rohit had played 108 ODIs before playing his first Test in Kolkata against the West Indies in November 2013.

1. The only batsman to score three double centuries in ODIs- Rohit has scored 3 double centuries in his career. He first scored 209 against Australia in 2013. He then scored the highest ODI score of 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka in 2014, while he scored his third double century in 2017 with an unbeaten 208 against Sri Lanka.

2. India’s most capped T20 player- Rohit is the most capped T20 player for India. He also became only the second batsman in the world to play 100 or more T20 Internationals. While Shoaib Malik did this feat before him, Ross Taylor did it after Rohit. Rohit has played 148 T20 matches and has scored 3853 runs at an average of 31.32.

3. Most successful captain of IPL- Rohit started leading Mumbai Indians from 2013. Interestingly, in the very first IPL season as captain, Rohit led Mumbai to its first IPL title. After that, under his leadership, Mumbai Indians won the IPL title in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 seasons as well. He became the first captain to win 5 IPL titles as a captain.
