In the final match of the World Test Championship, India lost to Australia by 209 runs. After this humiliating defeat, India’s captain Rohit Sharma has also come under criticism. After the match on Sunday (June 11), Rohit demanded that a three-match series be played for the WTC title. But it seems that Rohit’s demand was not accepted by former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
In an interview given to a media, Sunil Gavaskar said, “It was decided long ago. Even before WTley stepped out to play their first match of the season, they knew it would be just one last match. In that case you should have already made a mindset like IPL. A day or two can go wrong for anyone. But you had this idea before the season started. So you cannot demand the best of three. Tomorrow you will also demand a best of five.”
Meanwhile, the Indian team reached the final of the WTC 2021-23 (WTC Final) season after playing several Test series. According to Rohit Sharma, after winning many series and reaching this point, it is not right to give the title on the basis of just one match. In the past, there were many demands that a series of Test matches should be played for the WTC title. However, it was seen that Sunil Gavaskar disagreed with this demand of the Indian captain.
Meanwhile, considering the overall score of this match between the two teams, India needed 444 runs in the last innings to win. But the team was bowled out for 234 runs in 63.3 overs. Earlier in the first innings, Australia lost the toss and batted first. Australia scored 469 runs in 121.3 overs. India’s first innings ended on 296 runs.
