The final match of Maharashtra Premier League 2023 was held on Thursday (June 29). Ratnagiri Jets and Kolhapur Tuskers are facing each other in the final match of MPL. However, what everyone feared happened. During the match, the MPS Stadium was visited by rain. What if the match cannot be played on Thursday due to rain? This question has arisen for the fans. Let’s know about the rules of MPL.
The final match of MPL between Ratnagiri Jets and Kolhapur Tuskers was scheduled to start at 7.30 pm on Thursday. However, heavy rain appeared in the field even before that. Fans also fled the stands due to the rain. The organizing Maharashtra Cricket Association was already aware that the rain could disrupt the final match. Against this backdrop, special regulations were made by the MCA for the four playoff matches.
Two more hours have been reserved for each of these four matches due to the threat of rain. Even with this delay, the match can be played in full 20 overs. However, when it comes to reducing the number of overs in a match, one over will be played less for every 4.25 minutes. The match will be attempted to be at least five overs. If even five overs cannot be played, the result of the match can be determined on the basis of super over.
Even the Super Over could not be played due to rain, but the match will be played on the next day i.e. Friday. Reserve time is 9 am to 2 pm. Once a match is called off due to rain, the next day’s play will resume from where it was stopped. Not only was the match played on two consecutive days, the organizers had to announce the winner on the basis of points table. As Ratnagiri Jets are currently at the top of the points table, their team can lift the trophy due to rain interruption. (If rain interrupts MPL final, which team will win the trophy?)
