On Tuesday (June 27), the ICC announced the schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The competition will run from October 5 to November 19. The final match of the tournament will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The discussion of this schedule was going on when the former Indian team legend Virender Sehwag made a big prediction about the teams in the semi-final match of the World Cup.
What did Sehwag say?
Virender Sehwag said, “More than one lakh people will watch India-Pakistan match at Narendra Modi Stadium. Virat knows what the pitch conditions are like there. I am sure, he will rain runs in this World Cup and give his best performance for India.”
Sehwag called India favorites to win against Pakistan and said, “I think India coped brilliantly against Pakistan under pressure. In the 1990s, the Pakistan team was great at handling pressure, but after 2000, the Indian team is said to be great at this.”
He said, “If the pitch is good for batting, England and Australia will do well in the World Cup. However, if the spinners get help from the pitch, their batsmen will struggle. Players from the sub-continent have better spin experience than foreign players.”
He hoped that India and Pakistan could meet in the semi-final or final after the series. Apart from these two teams, England and Australia will also be strong contenders for the final four.
Sehwag was part of the world winning team
The Indian team won the second ODI World Cup in 2011 after 28 years. Virender Sehwag was also a part of this World Cup winning team. Sehwag played 8 matches in 2011 World Cup. He scored 380 runs at an average of 47.50. During these runs he also scored 1 century and 1 half century. 175 was his best score in this World Cup.
