Shadow chaos in WPL! A review against the decision of the third umpire, for the first time in cricket history

UP Warriors vs Mumbai Indians in Women’s Premier League on Sunday (March 12). In this match played at Brabourne Stadium, both teams entered the field with the intention of winning. At the same time, a historical incident was witnessed in the second innings of this match. The third umpire’s decision on DRS was once again referred to the third umpire to find out the truth. This has never happened before in the history of cricket.

In this match UP team scored 159 runs while batting first. Chasing these runs, Hailey Mathews and Yastika Bhatia gave a strong start for Mumbai Indians. Both scored 40 runs in 4.5 overs. However, a historic incident was witnessed on the fifth ball. Mathews chuckled at Sophie Eccleston’s delivery and the ball hit the bat and leg. UP players strongly appealed on it. As the umpire dismissed the appeal, UP captain Healy called for DRS.

It was seen on television that the ball hit the bat for the first time. The third umpire dismissed Mathews. However, once again the third umpire saw the review as Mathews did not go off the field. It clearly shows that the ball has touched the bat for the first time. Then the third umpire changed his decision and declared Mathews not out.

This is said to be the first time in cricket history that the third umpire changed his own decision. Also, due to this, the review system is also being questioned.
