Nitish Rana is leading Kolkata Knight Riders team in IPL this year. Regular captain Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out this season due to injury. Rana has led KKR to victory in 5 of the first 11 matches of the current season. As the league moves towards its final stages, all the teams are trying to secure a place in the playoffs. Meanwhile, KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan himself has given support to Rana by phone.

In an interview given to a news media, Nitish Rana () informed that Shah Rukh Khan () received a call. Rana said, “Shah Rukh Khan got a call. Trust me, you are doing well as a captain. Believe in yourself. No need to worry much. Do what you think is right, I will support you.”

Meanwhile, KKR has won the IPL trophy twice so far in IPL history. Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders won the title in 2012 and 2014 IPL seasons. But this year, the journey to the playoffs looks tough for KKR. KKR have won 5 of their first 11 matches. The team still has three matches to play in the league stage. Even if KKR loses one of these three matches, the team will be out of the playoff race.

KKR is currently ranked sixth in the IPL points table with five wins. The team has 10 points and a net run rate of 0.079. Gujarat Titans are at the first position in the list and Chennai Super Kings are at the second position. Gujarat and Chennai have won 8 and 7 matches respectively. Mumbai Indians are at the third position after winning 6 out of 11 matches. Fourth is Lucknow Super Giants (5 wins out of 11).
