Shastri is angry with Rohit’s ‘that’ decision! Said, “Umesh-Shami are not that young and you…”
The last match of the Border-Gavaskar Test series is being played in Ahmedabad. The Australian team built a mountain of 480 runs in the first innings on the strength of centuries from opener Usman Khawaja and all-rounder Cameron Green. Chasing these runs, the Indian team reached 36 not out at the end of the second day. Currently, the Indian team seems to be behind in this match. At the same time, Ravi Shastri, the former coach and commentator of the Indian team, gave his feedback on where the Indian team went wrong.
After the second day’s play, Shastri was asked where the Indian team fell behind. Answering that, he said,
“Where the captain decided to take the second new ball, I think the Indian team fell behind. You have Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami as fast bowlers. His age is around 35 now. They can no longer come at the end of the day and terrorize the opposition batsmen. You need young fast bowlers for that.”
The Indian team took the new ball with the last nine overs of the first day remaining. Khawaja and Cameron Green collected 54 runs on this. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar also criticized this strategy.
The Australian team scored 480 all out in their first innings. Apart from Khawaja’s contribution of 180 runs, youngster Cameron Green also scored a century. Lion and Murphy put on a partnership of 70 runs for the ninth wicket to take Australia’s innings forward. Ravichandran Ashwin took the highest six wickets for the Indian team.
