Shastri warns on Bumrah’s comeback; Citing the example of Afridi, he said, ‘You give him 4 months…’

Ravi Shastri said that Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback should not be rushed. If he makes an early comeback with the ODI World Cup 2023 in mind, there could be consequences. You have to wait for it to fully fit.

He said, “Bumrah is an important player, but if you take a hasty decision on him with the World Cup in mind, you will lose him for the next 4 months like Shaheen Afridi. So you have to make a very careful decision about it.”

Citing the example of Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shastri said, “Afridi made an early comeback in the team. After that he had to stay away from cricket for another four months.”

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is out of international cricket from September 2022 due to injury. He was not part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, Border-Gavaskar Series (2023), World Test Championship Final (2023). Additionally, he also missed the entire season of IPL 2023.
