Shubman Gill, ICC Player of the Month, took the batting by storm in January

Indian team’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill has put in a tremendous performance for the team in the month of January. He was rewarded by the ICC on Monday (February 13) for this performance. Shubman Gill has been announced as the ICC Player of the Month Award for the month of January. On the other hand, Grace Scrivens, captain of England under-19 women’s team, won the award from women’s cricket.

Shubman Gill made it rain for India in the series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January. The 23-year-old Shubman Gill scored more than 100 three times in the month of January and scored a total of 567 runs. He also scored a double century in the ODI against New Zealand. In this match played in Hyderabad, he scored 208 runs off 149 balls with the help of 28 fours. After this innings, Shubman became the youngest player to score a double century in ODI cricket.

Apart from that, Shubman scored 116 runs against Sri Lanka and 112 runs against New Zealand. Shubman Gill was challenged by New Zealand opener Devon Conway and Mohammad Siraj for the ICC Player of the Month. Siraj defeated both of them to win this prestigious award. Virat Kohli won this award in October 2022. Virat became the first Indian to win the Shubman award.

Grace Scrivens, on the other hand, performed brilliantly in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup held last month. Grace led her team to the final while captaining the England team. In the final match, however, the Indian team defeated Grace’s team and won the World Cup. Grace scored three consecutive fifties against Rwanda, Ireland, West Indies in this one month period. During this time she scored 293 runs at an average of 41.85. She also excelled in bowling and took 9 wickets at a strike rate of 7.11.
