Smith’s sound prowess! Started as a bowler, but eventually completed 15000 international runs

The second match of the Ashes 2023 Test series is being played at Lord’s Stadium on Wednesday (June 28). Australia batted on the first day and the team got off to a good start. Australian legend Steve Smith was able to make a significant contribution on the first day. Along with this, a milestone in international cricket was also crossed.

On the first day of the Lord’s Test, Australia scored 339 for 5 when they batted first. Steve Smith remained on the pitch with 85 runs. His partner, wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey also remained on the pitch till the end of the first day. The same duo opened the innings for Australia on the next day. Smith meanwhile crossed his 15000 international and 9000 test runs.

Smith started his cricket career as a spinner. But later due to good batting performance he decided to become a batsman. Smith joins a special list after hitting an unbeaten 85 on the first day of the Lord’s Test on Wednesday (June 28). He became the 41st player to score 15000 international runs. Among these 41 players, the Australian team has the most 9 players. Indian team is second with 8 batsmen. Sri Lanka and West Indies have 5 batsmen each to score 15000 international runs. Pakistan and South Africa each had 4 batsmen. So the names of 3 batsmen from New Zealand and 2 from England are in this list. A batsman from Bangladesh team has also scored 15000 international runs.

Virat Kohli still holds the record for scoring 15000 runs in the shortest innings in all three forms of cricket. Virat had scored only 333 runs. Smith, on the other hand, has played a total of 351 innings to reach this milestone.
