‘So BCCI made Dhoni captain’, former selector’s statement stirs excitement in the cricket world
The Indian team lost the final match of the World Test Championship against Australia. After losing the ICC trophy, the Indian captaincy has been continuously discussed. On the other hand, India suffered a shock defeat against England in the semi-final of T20 World Cup 2022. Meanwhile, former Indian selector Bhupinder Singh has said why BCCI made MS Dhoni the captain. So, let’s find out in detail…
The Indian team last won the ICC Trophy in the form of Championship Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Since then, India have lost a total of 4 ICC finals and several semi-finals. Dhoni is the only captain to lead India to three ICC trophies in limited overs cricket. Also, the former selectors have told what was the reason behind making Dhoni the captain.
Speaking to the media, Bhupinder Singh said, “Apart from automatic selection in the team, you look at a player’s cricketing skills, his body language, leadership ability and man management skills. We saw Dhoni’s approach to the game, his body language, the way he spoke to others and we got positive feedback.”
Under Dhoni’s leadership, the Indian team has performed well in bilateral series. However, the team has been a complete flop in winning the ICC trophy. Virat Kohli took the Indian Test team to new heights. However, he too could not lead the team to win the ICC trophy in any form of cricket.
Indian team to tour West Indies
Next month i.e. July, the Indian team is scheduled to tour the West Indies for a series of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20 Internationals. The tour will begin from July 12 with the first Test match to be played in Dominica. Also, the final match of the tour will be played in the form of a T20 International in Florida on August 13.
