…so Gill wants to bat at number three, revealed himself; Just take a look
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for the Indian team in the first Test against the West Indies. Regular opener Shubman Gill will be seen batting at number three in this match. But why was this creation taken? There is a discussion about this in the cricket world. Now Shubman has revealed that he is coming forward. So let’s find out why Shubman took this decision…
Shubman Gill said that he does not consider the role of a batsman at number three different from that of an opener. He is playing at number three in place of Cheteshwar Pujara in the two-match Test series against the West Indies. Young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing as the opening batsman for the first match of the series.
Gill will play at number three
Speaking to the media before the start of the first Test, Gill said, “The (team management) asked me which number I wanted to play. I said I want to bat at third position. It’s a position where I want to be strong.” He also said that “the experience of batting at number three will be beneficial for the Indian team.”
‘There is no difference in batting at number three’
Speaking further, Gill also said, “It’s always good to play with a new ball. I have experience with the new ball. When you bat at number three, it’s no different than opening. However, there is a difference,” he said, adding that he does not consider himself a senior player yet.
Gill further stated that he enjoyed a month’s rest. Also, he spent a lot of time with his family. “It was my first time in Barbados,” he said. First time in Dominica too. We came a lot earlier and practiced well.”
Discussed with the head coach
Captain Rohit Sharma commented on Gill’s playing at number three. He said that Gill will play at number three because he wants to play at that number himself. He has also discussed with Rahul Dravid. Gill told Dravid that I have played my cricket only at number three and number four. Gill feels he can do well for the team by batting at number three.”
India trail by 70 runs
West Indies scored 150 all out in the first innings. Chasing this challenge, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma came out to open from the Indian team. By the end of the first day’s play, Yashasvi (40 not out) and Rohit (30 not out) led the Indian team to score 80 runs without losing a single wicket. India still need 70 runs to overcome the challenge. (cricketer shubman gill reveals reason behind batting at no 3 reveal conversation with rohit sharma and rahul dravid)
