“…so Virat should be given the lead in the WTC Final”, suggested Ravi Shastri
Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian team has to play the final match of the World Test Championship against Australia. The match will be played at The Oval Stadium in England in the second week of June. The BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the final on Tuesday (April 25). However, at the same time, former coach Ravi Shastri has made an important statement about giving leadership to Virat Kohli in this final match.
Shastri said in an interview,
“Indian team will be title contenders in the World Test Championship finals. However, if regular captain Rohit Sharma is absent for some reason, Virat Kohli should be given the lead. The mistake made last time needs to be rectified this time.”
The Indian team took a 2-1 lead in the four-match series under the leadership of Virat Kohli during their tour of England in 2021. However, the last match of the series was played in 2022. At that time, Virat had left the leadership of the team. Also, as the newly appointed captain Rohit Sharma was injured, Jasprit Bumrah took over the captaincy. But, the Indian team lost the match and the series ended in a draw.
The final match of the World Test Championship 2023 (World Test Championship Final 2023) will be held between India and Australia. The match will be played at the Oval in London. This match between India vs Australia will be played from June 7 to June 11.
