The final of the Duleep Trophy, the first tournament of the new season in Indian domestic cricket, is being played in Bangalore. On the third day of the match, South Division has strengthened its grip on the match and is marching towards the title with a decisive lead.
On the first day of the match played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Western Division bowled out South Division for just 213 runs on the back of a brilliant performance by all the bowlers. Then on the second day, the batting order of the Western Division was also in shambles. At the end of the second day, they were bowled out for 129 runs by 7 wickets. The remaining three West Division batsmen were dismissed for just 17 runs on the third morning. Vidwat Kavirappa bowled a career-best seven wickets for South Division.
Coming out to bat in their second innings, South Division had a significant lead of 67 runs. Mayank Agarwal 35, skipper Hanuma Vihari 42, Ricky Bhui 37 and Sachin Baby 28 contributed as South Division took a significant lead of 248 runs at the end of the third day at 181 for 7. Arzan Nagwaswala, Atit Seth and Dharmendra Jadeja took two wickets each in the second innings for West Division, and they will face the challenge of dismissing the rest of the South Division batsmen early on the fourth day.
In the Duleep Trophy tournament played last year, West Division won the title by defeating South Division. This time, South Division will try to avenge this defeat. Batting in the fourth innings will be a big challenge for West Division. The West Division will focus on Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Sarfraz Khan and Cheteshwar Pujara.
