Sri Lanka one step away from World Cup qualification! Top-ranked Musandi beat the Netherlands

Sri Lanka continued their winning streak in the Super Six round of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. They took a step towards qualifying for the World Cup with a 21-run win against the Netherlands in Bulawayo. All-rounders Dhananjaya de Silva and Mahish Tikshana were the architects of Sri Lanka’s victory.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first in this match held in Bulawayo. The Netherlands, who defeated the West Indies in the first round of the qualifiers, also gave Sri Lanka a hard time with their penetrating bowling in this match. The Dutch bowlers, led by Van Beek, did not allow a single Sri Lankan batsman to stay on the pitch. At regular intervals they claimed their victims. Six Sri Lankan batsmen were dismissed for just 96 runs.

All-rounder Dhananjay De Silva played a struggling knock of 93 to keep the side in check when the team was in trouble. Hasaranga and Mahish Tikshana made valuable contributions to guide Sri Lanka to 213. Beek and Leede took three wickets each for the Netherlands.

Sri Lanka’s experienced bowlers showed their quality while defending these runs. All the bowlers contributed and took wickets. Bowling very miserly, he ended the Netherlands’ innings for just 191 runs. Baresi and Edward scored half-centuries for the Netherlands. Apart from him Leede scored 41 runs. Tikshan took three wickets for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka are currently ranked number one in Super Six round matches. Another win will ensure their place in the ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November.
