Currently an ODI series is being played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The second match of the three-match ODI series was played on Sunday (May 4). Host Sri Lanka won the match by 132 runs against Afghanistan in Hambantota. Vanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya De Silva contributed significantly to Sri Lanka’s victory after losing the first match.
In the first match between the two teams, Sri Lanka lost. In this second match Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first. His decision was considered right by all the batsmen. The pair of Dimuth Karunaratne (43) and Pathum Nisanka (52) opened the team with 82 runs. Kusal Mendis, who came to bat at number three, scored 78 runs. Then Sadira Sameerwickrama scored 44 runs. De Silva and Shanaka scored 29 and 23 respectively to take the team to 323.
Chasing these runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for just 2 runs. Ibrahim Zadran (54) and Rahmat Shah (36) shared a half-century partnership. Then captain Shahidi also completed his half-century. However, except for Omarzai, no one else could score double figures. With this, his innings ended on 191 runs. Hasaranga and De Silva took three wickets each for Sri Lanka. De Silva was honored with the man of the match award.
