On Sunday (May 14), Chennai Super Kings lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In the 61st match of IPL 2023, KKR spinner Varun Chakraborty along with Sunil Narine took 2 wickets each. Due to these wickets, Chennai could not pose a big challenge. KKR took advantage of it. After losing the match, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming made a big statement about Varun Chakraborty.
What did Fleming say?
Stephen Fleming, the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings team, made a big comment. He said that he still regrets not getting former net bowler Varun Chakravarthy in the IPL auction. For many years, Chakraborty harassed Chennai’s net bowler and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and other Chennai batsmen.
After the match, Fleming said, “We are still saddened by the loss of Varun. He gave us trouble in the nets for years. We couldn’t buy him at the auction.”
Varun was roped in by the Punjab Kings in 2019 for Rs 8 crore 40 lakh. Also, KKR still retain him after buying him for Rs 4 crore in 2020.
Speaking further, he also said that his team could not understand the situation properly. “We failed to understand the situation properly,” he said. It was a tough match for the batsmen. Initially there was a lot of bounce in the pitch, which gradually subsided. We are learning to play in this new position.”
Chennai is second in the points table
Despite losing the match against KKR, Chennai team is at the second position in the points table. The team has played 13 matches so far, out of which the team has won 7 matches and lost the remaining 5 matches. Also, 1 match has been drawn.
