Mumbai Indians had to win this match to enter the play-offs. Captain Rohit Sharma celebrated an unbeaten century after taking charge after scoring a half-century. He remained unbeaten till the end and scored 100 runs off 47 balls with the help of 8 fours and 8 sixes. However, Suryakumar Yadav helped in completing this century. When Green was on 99 runs, the responsibility of removing one run fell on Suryakumar. Because Mumbai needed only two runs to win. On this ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suryakumar showed his experience and saw that this ball would not go for a boundary and scored only one run. Green then completed his century.

Overall, Mumbai Indians won this match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 200 for 5 while batting first. In reply, Mumbai Indians won by losing 2 wickets in the 18th over. After this victory of Mumbai, RCB lost in the last match and Mumbai got the play-off ticket.
