“Take responsibility for defeat as you take credit for success”, says legend on Ponting after Delhi defeat

The performance of Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2023 has been very poor. Delhi have not been able to get a single win in the tournament so far. Delhi lost all the five matches they played. After this defeat, the captain of the team David Warner and the players are heavily criticized. However, former Indian cricketer and commentator Virender Sehwag asked the head coach Ricky Ponting to take responsibility for the defeat without blaming the players.

Delhi Capitals have been led by David Warner this season due to injury to regular captain Rishabh Pant. However, an experienced captain like Warner could not change the fortunes of the team. Delhi was defeated by Lucknow in the first match. Then they failed to win against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. In the match against Mumbai, he lost on the last ball. Speaking on the team’s poor performance, Sehwag said,

“When the team is winning, we give credit to the coach. Coaches should take this responsibility even when the teams are losing now. We often admire Ricky Ponting. He has done an excellent job with the team. The team also reached the finals under his guidance. The team also reached the playoffs every year. Now even in the bad times of the team, he should take this responsibility.”

Ricky Ponting has been the head coach of Delhi Capitals since 2019. Under his guidance, Delhi entered the finals in 2020. Delhi also reached the play offs for three consecutive years.
