Team India in the West Indies! Unbeaten on Caribbean soil for 21 years
The second Test match between West Indies and India concluded in Trinidad on Monday (July 24). On the last day, the match ended in a draw due to rain and the ground was unfit for play. With this, the Indian team won the series 1-0. Along with this series win, India maintained the history of not seeing a Test defeat in the West Indies for the last 21 years.
The Indian team needed eight wickets on the last day to win this match. However, the match was decided to be a draw as no ball was played due to rain. Although India could not clean sweep the series, they maintained their unbeaten record on West Indies soil for the last 21 years.
India’s last Test defeat in West Indies was in 2002. Since then the Indian team has not lost a single match at this venue till date. The Indian team has won five consecutive series in West Indies namely 2006, 2011, 2016, 2019 and now 2023. Along with this, India has also thrashed the West Indies in four consecutive series at home. In these 21 years, India won 15 Tests while 10 matches were drawn. Interestingly, from 1975 to 2002, the Indian team could not celebrate a single Test series victory in the West Indies.
If we consider this series, the Indian team won the first match in Dominica in just three days. In the Trinidad Test too, the Indian team’s pace was heavy at the end of the fourth day. However, India missed the chance to win 2-0 as the game was not played due to rain on the last day.
