The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (July 4) selected Ajit Agarkar as the new chief selector of the Indian senior men’s team. With the election of Agarkar, the post of Selection Committee Chairman, which has been lying vacant for the past five months, has now been filled. After getting this important position, many responsibilities have come upon him, and he will be faced with the challenge of building a strong Indian team.

After the appointment of Agarkar, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra gave his reaction. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said,

“People will watch what you decide as the chairman of the selection committee just like how people watch the performance of the coach. What are your plans? What will you decide? Will young players be given a chance? You will be asked such questions constantly.”

He went on to say,

“As the selection committee chairman, you have many powers. You can ask questions to the captain. Why was Ravichandran Ashwin dropped in the final of the World Test Championship? You should ask Rohit this question.”

Before Ajit Agarkar, former legend Chetan Sharma was the chief selector of the Indian team. He held this position for a long time. However, he resigned from the post after the shocking revelations made in the sting operation of a news channel. After this 5 months the post of Chief Selector is reduced.
