The Karnataka veteran took a dig at Rahul, saying, “What have you done in 8 years?”
The first match of the 4-match Test series between India vs Australia was played at Nagpur. On the strength of an excellent team performance, the host Indian team ended the match on the third day itself. India won the match by an innings and 132 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Although the Indian team performed brilliantly in this match, the team’s vice-captain and opener KL Rahul failed. Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad criticized his poor performance.
Rahul is currently failing miserably in limited overs cricket. However, his performance in Test cricket has not been very different. He has been able to score only one half-century in the last ten Test innings. In the first innings of the Nagpur Test, he failed to make a big knock when he had the chance. He faced 71 balls and scored only 20 runs. After his performance, Venkatesh Prasad targeted him by tweeting.

He wrote,
“I have a lot of respect for Rahul and his talent. However, his performance in Test cricket is very average. After playing eight years of international cricket, he averages 34 after 46 matches. This seems very normal. Even after getting so many opportunities, he could not prove himself.’
He further wrote,
“There are many players at the back who are waiting for their chance. Many cricketers like Shubman Gill, Sarfraz Khan are standing for the opportunity. Is Rahul in the team just because he is vice-captain? Ravichandran Ashwin seems very smart when it comes to cricket. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja also have that quality. I would say Mayank Aggarwal and Hanuma Vihari are more influential than him.’
Also criticizing Rahul, he said,
He is being selected in the team based on interest and not performance. There is something similar about a player who stays in a team for eight years without showing any consistency. Elevate your game in IPL. However, if this kind of performance is done while playing here, even the backers will criticize it.’
Interestingly, Prasad is a former player of the Karnataka team that Rahul represents.
