Many big wrestlers of India including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik are protesting at Jantar Mandar in Delhi. Four months ago, these wrestlers staged a protest against the MP and President of the Wrestling Federation of India Brijbhushan Singh of sexual harassment and other serious allegations. However, as no action has been taken against teacher Brijbhushan Singh, all the wrestlers have once again gathered together. However, there was no response from the cricketing world. Vinesh Phogat has targeted the Indian cricketers by holding the same issue.
Indian wrestler gathered together as the police did not register a case against BJP MP Brijbhushan Singh. On Friday (April 28), the Supreme Court ordered the police to register a case against Brijbhushan Singh. It has been said that until action is taken against Brijbhushan Singh, these players will continue their hunger strike. Vinesh Phogat expressed the opinion that wrestlers have been fighting for their justice for so long, but not a single cricketer is coming forward in their support. According to Vinesh, if no cricketer speaks up for justice for the athletes, then even after winning a medal for the country, these cricketers should not post anything for wrestlers.
In an interview to a news agency, Vinesh said, “The whole country worships cricket, but not a single cricketer has spoken yet. We are not asking you to speak for us. But at least take a neutral stance. I have a problem with this. It is not that there are no big players in our country. Many cricketers are… They showed their support in the Black Lives Matter movement in America. So don’t we deserve this?”
Vinesh Phogat comments on Indian cricketers –
“We don’t know why they are all afraid. He may be worried about losing sponsorship after making a statement about this. Perhaps that is why they are keeping themselves away from us, resisting. But these things are not acceptable to me. When we win something, everyone comes forward to congratulate us. Cricketers also tweet. But what happened now? Are you afraid of the system? Or it could be that they (cricket team/management or BCCI) also have some problem.”
“They all post their photos, do collaborations with different brands. So can’t drop a post for us? If we don’t deserve their support in times of struggle, then tomorrow they should not congratulate us even after we win a medal for the country. Don’t think so, you had faith in our ability. Because you don’t have faith and that’s why you are doubting us now,” Vinesh said.
Meanwhile, after this interview with Vinesh, some cricketers from the Indian team have supported the protesting wrestlers. It includes Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan.
In the hearing held in the Supreme Court on Friday, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal argued the side of the protesting wrestlers. Chief Justice D P Chandrachud directed the Delhi Police to register a case immediately as no case has been registered against Brijbhushan Singh. Also ordered to provide security to these minor wrestlers. (“The whole country worships cricket, so why not a single cricketer with us?” said Vinesh Phogat)
