‘There should be no vice-captain in the Indian team, because…’, Ravi Shastri said bluntly

India vs Australia in four matches Test The Indian team has exhausted Australia in the series. India has taken a 2-0 lead in the series. The third Test between the two teams will start from March 1. India has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. However, one question before the team management is the poor form of KL Rahul. Rahul seems to be constantly struggling, which is why he is the target of critics.

He has scored 20, 17 and 1 in three innings in two Tests. It is being said that he may be dropped from the third Test in Indore. An announcement has also been made for the remaining two Tests, but Rahul has been dropped as vice-captain. So maybe he is less likely to get a chance in the playing eleven.

Ravi Shastri’s clear opinion
Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian team, has openly commented on Rahul’s situation. Along with this, he also expressed a different opinion about his role as vice-captain. According to him, there should be no vice-captain in the Indian team. At least not in the domestic series.

In the ICC Review podcast, Shastri said, “The team management should decide on the vice-captain position. He knows about Rahul’s form. They also know his mental state. They know how they should look at a player like Shubman Gill. I am among those persons who always agree that no vice-captain should be selected, at least in India. I will always pick my best playing XI rather than this. Also, if your captain has to go off the field, you can delegate this responsibility to a player who can take care of things on time. The reason behind this is that you cannot create any problems.”

Shastri further said, “If a vice-captain is not performing well, someone else can be in his place. At least there is no tag. Let me be clear, I never favor picking a vice-captain in home conditions. The case is slightly different in foreign situations. You need good form here. You want a player like Shubman Gill, who is in great form. He can challenge. He has consistently performed well and made a place in the team. He is not your vice-captain, it should be a decision of all the team management.”

Also on Rahul’s form, Shastri said, “He is a talented player, he needs to showcase that talent now.” Speaking further, he said, “He will also have to look at the form. His mood has to be seen. He is a brilliant player, but talent is only a small part. You want to turn it into results and consistently perform well. India has a lot of talent, which is constantly knocking on doors. It’s not just about Rahul, it can be said about many middle order batsmen and bowlers as well.”

The third Test between India and Australia will be played at Indore from March 1 to March 5. It will be important to see whether Rahul gets a chance in this Test. (Former coach Ravi Shastri said there should be no vice captain in Indian team at home)
