‘This has never happened before…,’ Ashwin was surprised at the decision of the field umpires

Rajasthan Royals won by 3 runs against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday (April 12). Ravichandran Ashwin put in a brilliant performance for Rajasthan and was also named Man of the Match. After the match, Ravichandran Aswin appeared before the media and expressed his surprise at a decision by the field umpires. The umpires changed the ball without the team’s demand during Rajasthan’s bowling, which shocked Ashwin.

The match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals (CSK vs RR) was played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday night. CSK’s home ground was heavily covered with dew during the night. It is for this reason that the umpires decided to change the ball to left-centre during Rajasthan’s bowling. In T20 matches, a new ball is used in each innings. But due to dew at the Chepauk Stadium on Wednesday, the ball got wet early in Rajasthan’s innings and the umpires took a new ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his opinion about this in front of the media. Ashwin said, “I was very surprised when the umpires changed the ball in the middle because there was dew on the field. I have never seen this happen before. So I’m surprised. Some decisions of the umpires have bothered me this IPL season. To be honest, some of these decisions were good, some were bad. There must be a balance in these decisions. As a bowling team, we did not demand to change the ball. But the umpire decided with his own mind. I asked the umpire why. He said, we can take such a decision.”

“Now I just hope that whenever there is dew on the field, the umpires can change the ball. They should take the same decision in every match of IPL. Whatever you do, you must set a standard,” Ashwin added. Looking at Ashwin’s performance in this match, he scored 30 runs as a batsman.
