Lucknow Super Giants wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock did not get a chance to play in the eliminator match. The match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants took place on Wednesday (May 24) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mumbai won it by 81 runs and Lucknow’s season journey ended here after the defeat. After the match, fans wondered why Quinton de Kock was left out of the playing XI. Lucknow captain Krunal Pandya answered this question.

Quinton de Kock has always been amazing in the IPL. His experience at the international level can be called Dandaga. However, de Kock was not given a chance in the playing eleven by the Lucknow team management for the eliminator match against Mumbai Indians. Kyle Meyers came into the field to bat as an impact player in Lucknow’s batting. But he could not make a big innings. Mears scored 18 off 13 balls and was caught by Cameron Green. After the match, Krunal Pandya explained the reason for playing Mears ahead of de Kock. According to the captain, Meares had better stats than wicketkeeper batsman de Kock, so he was played as an impact player.

Lucknow captain Krunal Pandya said after the match, “Of course this decision is always difficult. Quinton de Kock is a quality player and a world class batsman as well. But Kay Mears’ statistics were good here. This decision becomes very difficult for us. But eventually, we think Kyle Mears should get a chance.”

Overall, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. Mumbai batsmen managed to reach 182 runs for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Lucknow Super Giants were bowled out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs. As a result, Mumbai won this match by a margin of 81 runs. Akash Madhwal was the match winner for Mumbai. Akash took 5 wickets in 3.3 overs for just 5 runs. (Due to this reason, Quinton de Kock did not get a chance in the playing eleven in the eliminator match)
