Top 5 Indian batsmen in WTC Finals, Rahane, who makes a comeback after 18 months, heavy on the veterans

The final of the World Test Championship 2023 was played at London’s K Oval on Sunday (June 11). Australia won the match by a whopping 209 runs, dashing the Indian team’s dream of winning the ICC trophy after 10 years. Although the Indian team lost in this match, still Ajinkya Rahane, who returned to the Indian team after 18 months, batted well. He thus became the highest run-scorer for India in the 2021 and 2023 WTC finals. He also beat legends like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 runs in the first innings of the WTC Final match against Australia. During this run he faced 129 balls and hit 1 six and 11 fours. Also, in the second innings he scored 46 runs off 108 balls with 7 fours. This made his 135 runs. Also in the 2021 WTC final he scored 49 and 15 runs in the first and second innings respectively. He scored a total of 64 runs in this. Thus he scored a total of 199 runs in both the finals. He became the top run-scorer for India in the WTC final. Rahane also had the distinction of becoming the first Indian to score a half-century against Australia in a WTC final.

Apart from Rahane, Rohit Sharma is the second highest run-scorer in WTC finals. He scored a total of 64 runs in 2021 with 34 and 30. Also, 2023 scored 58 runs with 15 and 43. Thus he scored a total of 122 runs in the WTC final. Virat Kohli is in third place after Rohit. Virat scored 57 runs in the WTC final in 2021 with 44 in the first innings and 13 in the second innings. Then now in the final match of 2023 he scored 63 runs with 14 and 49. That made a combined 120 runs in both his WTC finals.

Ravindra Jadeja is on the fourth place in this list. He scored 31 runs of 15 in the first innings and 16 in the second innings in the 2021 final. Now in the 2023 final he scored 48 in the first innings and 0 in the second innings. Thus his total was 79 runs. In addition, opener Shubman Gill is in the last i.e. fifth position. He scored 28 in the first innings and 8 in the second innings for a total of 36 in the 2021 WTC final. Also, 13 in the first innings and 18 in the second innings for a total of 31 in the 2023 WTC final. That made his total 67 runs in both the WTC finals. (Most runs for India in WTC Finals)
