Tushar Deshpande who traveled from ballboy to CSK’s trump card
A new rule has been introduced in IPL 2023. That is the Impact Player Rule. This decision will be beneficial for T20 cricket to become more prosperous. The good results of that decision are also visible in the competition. At the same time, Tushar Deshpande who played for CSK got the honor of being the first impact player. May 15 is Tushar Deshpande’s birthday.
Tushar Deshpande is a true Mumbaikar. He was born in Kalyan. His Sri Ganesha of cricket was born from such a street in Mumbai. Dreaming of becoming a cricketer since childhood, Tushar started taking batting training at the age of nine. He has been timing the ball well ever since. However, he suddenly became a fast bowler, that too just to get home early.
Mumbai’s Under 13 team had a trial at Shivaji Park in 2007. Tushar had come from Kalyan with his friends to give that trial. Seeing a hundred-and-a-half-hundred boys in the batting line, he directly took the line of 20-25 fast bowlers. Tushar, who suddenly went into that line, bowled the fastest ball. The responsibility of selecting the players in that trial rested on the shoulders of veteran Padmakar Shivlakar. They liked Tushar’s game and he was selected in Mumbai’s Under 13 team. After that, Tushar started playing every age group competition for Mumbai. It was named Kalyan Express because of its speed.
Many may not know but Tushar was a ballboy in the first season of IPL. At that time, he got the opportunity to shake hands with many players and take pictures. After that, Tushar worked hard. He joined Mumbai’s Ranji team in 2016-2017 while enjoying the age group competition. In a short span of time, he became Mumbai’s leading bowler. Later he also got the chance to play India A as well as Duleep Trophy.
He was able to play the IPL in 2020 where he worked as a ball boy. Delhi Capitals gave him his first chance. However, he could only take three wickets in 5 matches. Chennai signed him last year. But, got to play only two matches. This year, however, he won Dhoni’s trust. He has been a part of the team since the first match. With 19 wickets in 13 matches, he is still in the running for the Purple Cap.
After becoming an unexpected fast bowler, he has made it all the way through hard work. Does he get a chance to wear the jersey of Indian team in future? It will be interesting to watch.
