Two brothers and two champion captains! Such will be the thrill of play offs
The league round of IPL 2023, which lasted for 52 consecutive days, ended on Sunday (May 21). Gujarat Titans defeated RCB in the last match, Mumbai Indians placed fourth and booked their ticket to play offs. So now let’s see how the play offs will play out.
Gujarat Titans, who participated in the IPL for the first time last year and directly won the title, did the same this time as well. Playing under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, Gujarat grabbed the first position with ten wins. Then Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni overcame the previous year’s failure and booked their place in Qualifier 1 by finishing second with 17 points. Now the Qualifier 1 match will be played between Gujarat and Chennai on Tuesday (May 23) at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The team that wins this match will directly enter the finals.
Like Gujarat, Lucknow, who participated in the IPL last year, showed consistency in their performance. They finished third in the league with 17 points. Krunal Pandya successfully led the team to qualify for the play-offs for the second time in a row after skipper KL Rahul was ruled out with an injury halfway through the season. After a poor start, the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians team qualified for the play-offs by finishing fourth. Mumbai got this opportunity as RCB lost in the last match. An eliminator match will be played between Lucknow and Mumbai on Wednesday (May 24). This match will also be played in Chennai.
The losing team in this match will be eliminated directly. So the winning team will have to play the losing team in the first qualifier. The Qualifier 2 match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 26. The final match will be played on the same ground on May 28.
