Cricket is the most watched and played sport in India. Indian team has many times more fans than other teams in international cricket. There is no dearth of talented players in India, but the number playing at the domestic level is also immense. But very few of them get to play at the international level for the country. There are also some who are selected in the Indian team, but never get a chance to actually play. In this article we are going to consider five such fast bowlers who were picked in the Indian team after 2000, but never got a chance to play.
1. Shibshankar Paul –
Shibshankar Paul played for the Bengal team in domestic cricket and his contribution to the team has been immense. He played 61 in First Class cricket, 61 in Least A cricket and 8 domestic T20 matches. He took 220, 86 and 12 wickets respectively in these three formats. This fast bowler, who made his debut in domestic cricket in 2000, retired from all forms of cricket in 2016. In between, Paul was selected for the Indian team twice, but never got a chance to play. In 2004, when the Australian team toured India, Paul was part of the Indian team for the second time in the Test series against Bangladesh in December 2016. However, could not be part of the playing eleven.
2. Randeb Bose –
Ranadeb Bose also remained the leading fast bowler of the Bengal team in domestic cricket. Ranadab Bose has a record of 91 matches in first-class cricket, taking 317 wickets. He has 126 wickets in 82 matches in List A cricket and 11 wickets in 11 matches in domestic T20 cricket. On the strength of his penetrating bowling, Bose was selected in the Indian team in 2007. Ranadab Bose was part of the Indian squad for the series against England, but did not get a chance in the playing eleven. Since RP Singh, Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth were in the team at that time, Ranadab Bose did not get a chance to debut for the Indian team.
3. Rakesh Patil –
Even Rakesh Patel, who represented Gujarat and Baroda in domestic cricket, never played an international match for the Indian team. He started playing domestic cricket in 1998. He showed his bowling edge in 67 First Class, 32 List A and 2 T20 matches. In 2002, when the Indian team was on a tour of New Zealand, Patil was also selected in the ODI team for this tour. But he did not get a chance in the playing eleven. This was his first and last selection for the Indian team, in which he did not get a chance to play.
4. Ishwar Pandey –
Ishwar Pandey has been an important batsman for the Madhya Pradesh team in domestic cricket. He represented Chennai Super Kings and Pune Warriors in IPL. Although his statistics in domestic cricket remained good, his dream of playing international cricket never came true. The fast bowler, who has the ability to swing the ball at a speed of 130 kmph, joined the Indian team in 2014. He was included in the squad for the tour of New Zealand, but did not get a chance to actually play. Pandey has a record of playing 75 matches in first class cricket, 58 in List A cricket and 71 matches in T20 format. In this he has taken 263, 63 and 68 wickets respectively.

Thampi has taken 102, 41 and 80 wickets respectively in these three formats. Thampi did well in IPL 2017 and after that cemented his place in the Indian team. In 2017, he got a chance in the Indian team for the T20 series between India and Sri Lanka. The team management did not give Thampi a chance as bowlers like Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar and Jaydev Unadkat were in the team.
