After the tournament was announced, the Lucknow-based franchise was renamed UP Warriors. In the subsequent player auction, UP tried to build a strong team. The 16-member squad consists of players who have excelled in international as well as domestic cricket. The team recently announced the name of its first captain. Australia’s veteran opening wicketkeeper Alyssa was made the team’s captain for the first season. After that, Deepti Sharma was selected as the vice-captain.
Deepti was lured by UP by paying a huge amount of 2 crores 60 lakhs in this auction. Interestingly, she plays domestic cricket only for UP. Off-spin bowling as well as left-handed batsman Deepti has made his mark in international cricket in a very short span of time. In the recently held Women’s T20 World Cup, she became the first Indian bowler to score 100 wickets in T20 cricket.
