The Indian Premier League 2023 season is over. But currently cricket lovers are enjoying the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The second match of TNPL 2023 was played on Tuesday (June 13) between Salem Spartans and Chepauk Super Gillies. A record was set in the second match of the league, probably the first ever in India. Fast bowler Abhishek Tanwar is said to have bowled the most expensive ball in the history of T20 cricket.
Salem Spartans fast bowler Abhishek Tanwar bowled the last ball of Chepauk Super Gillies’ innings, which cost his team dearly. We have heard expensive overs before, but rarely do we hear expensive balls. Because a batsman can take at most 6 runs on one ball. But in TNPL 2023, Abhishek spent as many as 18 runs on one ball. He had spent 8 runs in the first five balls of his over. But the last ball cost the Salem Spartans dearly. Surprise is being expressed because the captain himself bowled such a ball.
Abhishek had bowled Super Gillies batsman Sanjay Yadav on the last ball of the innings. Abhishek was happy to get the wicket. However, the umpire immediately declared the ball a no ball. Abhishek’s leg was far ahead of the crease. As the batsman got a free hit on the next ball, the batsman swung the bat hard and hit a six. Interestingly, Abhishek bowled a no ball this time too. Abhish then bowled a no ball to Takel, on which the batsman took two runs. After bowling three consecutive no balls, Abhish bowled the next ball wide. On the last ball bowled by Abhishek, Super Gillies batsman Sanjay hit another six towards midwicket. Abhishek spent a total of 18 runs on the last ball in this manner. Abhishek spent a total of 26 runs in the last over and the team had to pay the price with a defeat against Salem Spartans. The Spartans had a target of 218 runs to win, which the team failed to achieve. In the stipulated 20 overs, the Spartans team reached 165 runs. However, Abhishek did not hold the record for the most expensive ball. This record is still held by Clint McCoy who spent 20 runs in one ball in the Big Bash League. In BBL 2012-13, McCoy achieved this elusive record in a match played between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars. (Indian bowler spent 18 runs in one ball in TNPL)
