During the first Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka vs New Zealand), ‘kate ki takkar’ was seen. On the last ball of the fifth day, New Zealand needed 1 run to win. This time Kane Williamson was on the pitch. Asitha Fernando came to bowl in this over and bounced the last ball. Williamson tried to pool the ball, but the bat and ball failed to make contact. Realizing that the ball did not hit the bat, Williamson ran out for a run. Wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella without a moment’s delay threw the ball over the stumps. But the ball did not hit the stumps and came into the hands of the bowler.

The bowler Fernando also threw the ball to the non-strike end immediately after receiving the ball. This time the ball hit the stumps and the umpires took the help of a third umpire before announcing the result. After a review by the third umpire, the ball was seen to have reached inside the strike before Williamson hit the stumps. As a result, the third umpire gave the no-hit deal and New Zealand won. Kane Williamson scored an unbeaten 121 off 194 balls in the second innings of this match. It included 11 fours and 1 six. Williamson’s 27th century in Test career and 40th century in International career

Considering the total of this match between the two teams, in the first innings Sri Lanka team scored 355 runs while New Zealand scored 375 runs. In reply, in the second innings, Sri Lanka scored 302 and New Zealand scored 258 to win. The match had a major impact on the World Test Championship. Sri Lankan team is playing against Australia in Ahmedabad Test. But even before the result of this test match, India secured their place in the WTC final.

Had the Sri Lankan team won both the matches against New Zealand and had India not won the Ahmedabad Test, Sri Lanka too could have reached the final of the WTC. But after the defeat, Sri Lanka’s dream of making the finals was also left unfulfilled. The WTC final will be played between India and Australia at the Oval Stadium in London on June 7.
