The winning run came from the bat of India’s leading spinner Ravichandra Ashwini. Ashwin has now revealed what advice Virat gave him at that time.

In this match held in Melbourne, the Indian team was challenged to 160 runs to win. After the Indian team lost their first four batsmen in quick succession, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten till the end. Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik were dismissed when 16 runs were needed in the last over. With two runs needed off the last ball, Ashwini, who came in to bat, showed patience and left the ball wide. Reminiscing about that time, Ashwin said,

“When I came to bat against Pakistan for the final ball in the World Cup, Virat Kohli gave me as many as 7 options to play that one ball.
