“Virat’s wicket is special for me”, admits debutant Murphy candidly

The first match of the Test series between India and Australia is being played in Nagpur. In this match, which is being played from Thursday (February 9), the Indian team put Australia on the back foot with a strong performance. At the end of the second day, the Indian team has a strong lead of 144 runs. On the one hand, while the entire Australian team was failing, debutant spinner Todd Murphy won everyone’s hearts with his performance. He grabbed five wickets in his first match. Speaking after the second day’s play, he admitted that India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli’s sacrifice was special for him.

Indian bowlers ended Australia’s first innings for just 177 runs. After that, Rohit Sharma scored an aggressive half-century to make the first day completely for India. However, at the very end of the day, debutant Murphy picked up his first international wicket by dismissing KL Rahul. The next day too, he showed Ravichandran Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara the way to the tent in the morning session. The very first ball after lunch on the second day was special for Murphy.

When Virat Kohli was on strike, this ball was bowled on the leg stump and took the outside edge of Virat’s bat and rested in the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey. He then dismissed Bharat to complete his first career five-wicket haul. He has so far bowled 36 overs in this match giving away 82 runs to 5 batsmen.

Speaking after the match, he said,

“It is definitely exciting to bowl like that in the first match. However, Virat Kohli’s sacrifice was special for me. Because he is the idol of everyone who plays cricket. All eyes are on him. Glad I managed to knock him out.”

Murphy has only played six first-class matches. However, considering the Indian pitches, he was given a place in the team.
