‘We also used to argue, but this…’, Gavaskar demands strict punishment in Gambhir-Virat case
The issue of the fight between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir on Monday (May 1) is now in the news all over the country. There have been different reactions to this. Former Indian team player Sunil Gavaskar has also given an important reaction in this. He even said that big action should be taken against the incident so that such incidents do not happen again in the Indian Premier League. Gavaskar was very disappointed to see Virat and Gambhir fighting like this.
What did Gavaskar say?
Sunil Gavaskar made it clear in the warning that the severe punishment includes suspension for some matches. So that it can be ensured that such incidents will not happen in future. He also said that TV broadcasting has played a role in making the players more aggressive.
Gavaskar said that even when he used to play cricket for India, there was sledging. However, limits were never crossed in this way, as was done in Lucknow on Monday.
After this incident, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100 percent of their match fee. On Monday (May 1) Lucknow Super Giants Vs. Virat and Gambhir had an altercation after the Royal Challengers Bangalore match, which was caught on TV cameras. Following the brawl at the Ikana Stadium in Lucknow, the IPL took action and cut the entire match fee.
Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “I saw this some time ago. I had not seen this match live. All these things never felt good. What is a 100 percent match fee? What exactly is a 100 percent match fee? If he is Virat Kohli, he gets Rs 17 crore from Royal Challengers Bangalore. That means, 17 crores for around 16 matches. It also includes semi-final and final matches. So you are talking about one crore rupees. Then he will be fined Rs 1 crore? Is this too heavy a penalty?”
Speaking further, Gavaskar said, “I don’t know what is Gambhir’s condition. The Board should ensure that such incidents should not recur. You are hoping that such incidents will not happen again. Because, this is a very big penalty. You want to play a big game. Want to play with the opponent. When we used to play, we used to fight, but we never behaved like what we saw now. It also has to do with the fact that everything is on TV. So when you think you’re on TV, you do it a little bit more.”
Gavaskar’s big statement
At this time, Gavaskar made a big statement and said, “Then my opinion is, do something, which will ensure that such things do not happen again. The way it happened 10 years ago between Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth. You might even have to tell them to sit out for a few matches. You must ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Something that will hurt the team. This is a severe punishment.”
In fact, it all started when there was an altercation between Bangalore fast bowler Mohammad Siraj and Lucknow player Naveen ul Haq. The Lucknow team could not clear the challenge of 127 runs and Bangalore won the match by 18 runs. After the match, all the players were shaking hands with each other. At that time too there was a fight between Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq. After this, Gambhir took Lucknow batsman Kyle Meyers away from Virat. After that, the matter got even hotter.
