Although the Indian team has won two consecutive Test series against Australia, vice-captain KL Rahul’s form has become a concern for India. Rahul scored only 18 runs in both innings of the second Test match. Also, he was seen struggling in the Nagpur Test as well. He was also selected in the Indian squad for the remaining two Test matches of the series. Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian team, has given a reaction as he is not getting runs.
Rahul has been struggling with form for a long time now. There are also demands for his exclusion from the team due to poor performance. However, the team management showed faith in him and decided to give him more opportunities. Ganguly said,
“When you don’t score, it’s natural that you get criticized. When you fail in India, there is more criticism. But what matters is what the team management thinks about you.”
Talking about what exactly is Rahul’s problem, Ganguly said,
“He looks a bit tired technically and mentally. Everyone expects a good performance from the Indian openers. At the same time, the other players in the team are in form and the pressure on you increases.”
KL Rahul has scored just 175 runs in 11 Test innings since the start of 2022. Meanwhile, his average has been 15.90. He led the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the two-Test series against Bangladesh. Despite playing a total of 47 matches, his Test average is just 33.44. Due to this performance, he was asked to be removed from the team.
