The player auction for the first ever Maharashtra Premier League i.e. MPL 2023 was held in Pune on Tuesday (June 6). Six franchisees participated in this auction. Experienced Maharashtra batsman Naushad Sheikh became the most expensive player in this auction. The Kolhapur Tuskers, captained by Kedar Jadhav, bid as much as six lakhs for him.
In this auction held in Pune, almost all the teams had their eyes on Naushad. Initially Eagle Nashik Titans and Puneri Bappa bid for him. However, after the bid crossed four lakhs, suddenly Kolhapur entered the competition. After Nashik withdrew, there was a fierce tug-of-war between Kolhapur and Pune to get him in their team. Finally the Kolhapur team made him a part of their team by making the highest bid of 6 lakhs. Interestingly, his bidding started with a base price of 60 thousand. This means he got 10 times his original price.
Naushad Sheikh is known as an aggressive batsman in domestic cricket. Apart from hitting hard, he can also keep wickets and bowl improvised offspin. He is known as the player who hit the most number of sixes in the Maharashtra team. Naushad, who made his debut for the Maharashtra Ranji team in 2015, has also led the Maharashtra team for a while.
If we look at his T20 career, he has scored 942 runs in 45 matches. He has also managed to take 12 wickets. Naushad, a resident of Osmanabad, played a major role in the Maharashtra team’s success in reaching the finals of the 2018-2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
