“Why are Rohit-Virat excluded from T20?”, the veteran asked the team management angrily.

Currently, the Indian cricket team is on a tour of the West Indies. The tour of India will start from July 12. Earlier, the Indian squad for the T20 series of the tour was announced on July 5. Regular captain Rohit Sharma and veteran Virat Kohli have been rested from this series. However, former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly expressed displeasure on this issue.

The Indian team will come out with full strength in the Test and ODI series on the West Indies tour. However, experienced players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami will not be seen in the T20 series. Speaking in an interview on the same issue, Ganguly said,

“Rohit and Virat were in good form in the recent IPL. Considering his experience, it was felt that he will get a chance to play in this series as well. However, I am surprised that he was not selected. They are in my team. I don’t understand why they were given a break.”

Rohit and Virat have not been Indians in the last four T20 series. BCCI is said to be preparing the team under the leadership of Hardik Pandya with the future in mind. On the other hand, Virat Kohli was the fourth highest run scorer in the IPL. This included his two centuries. So Rohit has also made useful contributions for his team at strategic moments. The chances of both of them getting a chance in the Ireland tour after the West Indies tour is very less.
