Why was Suryakumar played? There is talk of not getting a chance for the WTC finals

The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has announced India’s 15-member squad for the World Test Championship 2023. Experienced batsman and former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane got a place in this 15-member team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma after a gap of more than a year. However, Suryakumar Yadav, who made his international debut in the series against Australia, did not get a chance. Due to this, a discussion has arisen on social media.

When the BCCI announced the Indian squad for the World Test Championship, many people expressed their reaction after seeing Ajinkya Rahane’s name in it. Some said it was wrong to give places in the Test squad on the strength of IPL performance. So, some said that he was given a chance by combining experience and form.

Although Rahane got a chance in the team, many expressed surprise that Suryakumar Yadav did not get a chance. Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra tweeted,

‘I am happy for Ajinkya. However, after giving Surya a chance, why was he kicked out after playing in one match?’ Suryakumar made his debut in the first match of the Test series against Australia earlier this year. He could score only 8 runs in this match. He did not get a chance to play in the next three matches.

The WTC final will be played from June 7 to 11. This match will be played at England’s K Oval ground. However, if the match is interrupted by rain, the match can be played on June 12.
