England and Australia faced each other in the only women’s Ashes Test at Nottingham. The Australian team made a stunning comeback to win the match by 89 runs. Australia captain Beth Mooney won the toss and elected to bat first in the match at Trent Bridge. Experienced Ellis Perry scored 99 and Tahlia McGrath contributed 61 runs on the first day. On the second day, all-rounder Annie Sutherland scored a powerful knock of 137 runs to take Australia to 473. Sophie Ecclestone took five wickets for England.

Hosts England also produced a brilliant batting display as they chased down the huge first innings total set up by Australia. Captain Heather Knight and veteran Nate Seaver celebrated powerful half-centuries. However, opener Tammy Beaumont scored 208 for England in the best innings in women’s Test history. England were bowled out for 463 and Australia took a 10-run lead. Gardner took four and McGrath three wickets for Australia.

In the second innings for Australia, captain Mooney and experienced wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy scored 85 and 50 respectively. Sophie Ecclestone once again took 5 wickets for England. With this, England got a challenge of 268 runs for victory in the last innings.

Chasing this challenge, except for Danny Wyatt, England’s other batsmen were virtually ineffective against Ashley Gardner. She took 8 wickets to end England’s innings at 178 runs. With this, Australia won the Women’s Ashes after eight years.
