World Cup Qualifiers: Oman shock Ireland, team performance wins
On the second day of the ongoing ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, the match between Ireland and Oman was played. In this match held in Bulawayo, Oman team recorded a surprising result and won by 5 wickets. All-rounder Zeeshan Maqsood was instrumental in Oman’s victory.
This tournament is being played for the ODI World Cup being held in India in the month of October November. Two teams from this eight-team tournament will qualify for the World Cup. On the second day, in this match between Oman and Ireland, Oman team won the toss and decided to bowl first.
After getting the chance to bat first, McBrien and Stirling gave the Ireland team a 51-run opening. However, both of them were dismissed on successive balls. Captain Balbirnie also failed. Young Harry Tector once again came to the rescue of the team with a knock of 52 runs. Tucker contributed 26 runs. George Dockrell, who then came in to bat, scored an unbeaten 91 runs while leading the team’s score. On the strength of this innings, the Ireland team reached 281 for 7.
Chasing these runs, Oman got their first shock early in the form of Jatinder Singh. However, after that, Kashyap Prajapati and Akib Ilyas completed half-centuries and made a partnership of 94 runs. Zeeshan Maqsood, who came next, also scored a half-century. Mohammad Nadeem remained unbeaten till the end and scored 46 runs to win the team by 5 wickets.
