India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour were announced on Friday (June 23). Rohit Sharma has retained the responsibility as the captain of the Test team, while returning veteran Ajinkya Rahane has once again been given the vice-captaincy of the team. In addition, many young players have also got opportunities in both the teams. Mumbai’s left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was selected in the Test team. He then thanked many of India’s senior players while reacting.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has got a chance in the Indian team after literally scoring runs in domestic cricket as well as IPL. He was the highest run-scorer in the domestic season last year. Also, he has become an emerging cricketer in IPL. With all this in mind, he has now got a chance in the Test team. He can claim the third position in place of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Speaking after this election, he said,
“It was my dream to get selected in the Indian team. My father was very emotional after hearing this news. Many people have supported this journey so far. The mind set of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, who are the key players of the Indian team, is very positive. Every time I spoke to them I realized this. How can you take your game one step further? He always guided me in this regard. Learned a lot from them.”
Yashavya was adjudged the best young player in the recent IPL. Before that, he performed brilliantly in domestic cricket for Mumbai as well as for Western Division.
