Zimbabwe made history in ODI cricket! Just 14 runs short of breaking India’s ‘Ha’ record

The United States face Zimbabwe on Monday (June 26) in the 17th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers. The USA team suffered a shock defeat in this match. Zimbabwe won the match by 304 runs. With this victory, the Zimbabwean team created history in ODI cricket. Zimbabwe became the second team to achieve such a feat.

In fact, Zimbabwe have become the second team to score the most runs in the history of ODI cricket. The Indian team holds the record for the highest number of runs in ODIs. India won by 317 runs against Sri Lanka at Thiruvananthapuram on January 15, 2023. Zimbabwe fell short by 14 runs to break this record.

Due to this big win, many records were created by the Zimbabwean team. Zimbabwe made the best score in ODI career so far. In this match, the Zimbabwean team, who came to bat first, scored 408 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs. Captain Sean Williams played a major role in making these runs. He was also honored with the Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance.

Batting at number three, Williams scored 174 runs off 101 balls with the help of 5 sixes and 21 fours. He scored these runs at a strike rate of 172.28. This became the third highest individual score by a Zimbabwean batsman. He completed his century in just 64 balls. This became the second fastest century for Zimbabwe after Sikander Raza. Raza broke Williams’ record in the same tournament and scored a century off 54 balls. Raza scored a 27-ball 48 in this match, while Ryan Burl also scored an explosive 16-ball 47.

Team USA crumbled like a bungalow in the pursuit of this challenge from Zimbabwe. Six batsmen returned to the tent within just 45 runs. After this, the entire team was reduced to 104 runs. Richard Ngarwa took 2 wickets for 25 runs in 8 overs. Also, Sikandar Raza took 2 wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs. In addition, Brad Evans, Luke Jongwe and Ryan Berl claimed 1 wicket each.
